WELCOME! Situated
at the United Nations in New York, Passionists International intends
to bring the work and the dreams and the hopes of the members of the
Passionist Family around the world to bear on the decisions that are
made by the 191 nations that make up the body of the UN. The
initiative came from a decision of the Passionist General Chapter in
Brazil in 2000. Facing the reality of globalization, we came to see
how we are affected by the lifestyles and decisions of other countries.
We wanted to find other places to express the hope and the healing
that go to the heart of our Passionist charism. We share
with so many others the wonderful charism of keeping alive the memory
of God’s overwhelming love shown in the Passion of Jesus. In
creating a body to represent us at the UN, we wanted to open it to
members of the Passionist Family around the world. Passionists
International is now recognized as a Non Governmental Organization
(NGO, ONG) that is affiliated with the Department of Public Information
(DPI) at the UN. At present Passionists International consists
of one full time worker, Father Kevin Dance,
C.P., from Australia. Sister Mary Ann Strain, C.P., from Farmington,
Connecticut, USA, is the liaison for the Sisters of the Cross and Passion
who is able to share in this new and exciting ministry which is gradually
unfolding at the UN.
